Hi. I just got the kit with an SI-3BG tube. I fired it up and the thing is beeping like crazy. I Have the anode and cathode polarity right so I really hope my home isn't this radioactive. Any ideas? The voltage measured at the tube with the tube disconnected is about 178vdc. I haven't touched the potentiometer.

My "free" GM tube did the same thing. Didn't respond to a source either, just clicked away without reason.. It went faster as the voltage was turned up, and slower as it went down. Figured the "freeby" was no good.. :(
The kit works well with the 6107 and 6108 tubes I have.

Hey Odiez... you wanna sell one of your 6107s? Its the same as the 7616 LND, right? and did you have any problems with the higher voltage requirement?

I only have 1 of them, got if off ebay, [correction]and I thought the seller still had more.[/correction] I don't even know if it still works after my incident the other day... At any rate.. I do have 3-pin mini sockets for the CDV-700 probes/ GM tubes.
The 6107 is supposed to be Alpha sensitive, with the proper mod mentioned in another topic. It does look like the 7616, but I don't see Alpha sensitivity mentioned for the 7616. I'm looking at getting an SBM-20 (the most widely used GM tube, SOEKS, PRIPYAT for example). I think it's a bit more sensitive and may be more useful as a personal meter than the 6107, as it's not an end window tube...
As far as voltage, I believe most tubes can operate at lower than specification voltages. The GMC-080 I goes up to 520v, which seems sufficient for the GM tubes I'm seeing on ebay. The prices are another matter..

franco: Adjust voltage will change the sensitivity of the tube. The 178vdc is not a correct voltage. Do not check the voltage on the tube two ends. the correct test points are showing in the topic. Also, use a batter multimeter, you will get lower voltage if your multi-meter has low resistance.:

I purchased one of the new full length glass tubes from GQ and have found it to be much more sensative than the BG-29 Russian tubes. I haven't played with the 6107 alpha window tube so I can't speak to it's sensativity compaired to the new GQ glass tube. Ted

ENIGMA6: The new GQ Full leng glass tube should be M4011 and the Russian tube should be SI-29BG right?

How do you think it would compare to a Russian CI-180G? ebay has them for 17.00 bucks right now.

Recommended Working Voltage 360 - 420V
Initial Voltage 290 - 330V
Plateau Length 100V
Plateau Slope 0.1% / 1V
Interelectrode Capacitance 10pF
Load Resistance 5 - 10 MOhms
Working Temperature Range -50º +70º #1057;
Length 100mm
Diameter 18mm

Sorry for the delay in replying. Yes, it is the SI-29BG.
