Just received 2 Tool-081 cables for my GMC-500 & 500+.
1. With these cables connected to both GCs I still hear clicks coming from both GCs. I thought that Tool-081 cable connections would silence GC click audio. Should there be silence or should I still hear GC clicks ??? I have USB audio cable option selected.
2. With Tool-81 cables connected to GCs their batteries will not be recharged. Can I use GC USB port connected to multi port USB hub to recharge batteries ???

The tool-081 is simply an USB-To-Serial device. Its Serial side receives pulses - like audio pulses - and transmits one byte for each pulse received. On the USB side, the receiving side, a program like GeigerLog counts the pulses. This is a neat "clever misuse" of such a device. You can get many such devices from all kinds of vendors for a fraction of the cost of tis tool-081, and they all work.

The trick is that the audio signal must be of such a shape that the USB-To-Serial device is triggered. This is the case for a GMC-500, but not necessarily for other GQ counters!

The audio pulse of a GMC-500 has very significant over- and undershooting. But the Serial side of these devices is rather robust, and tolerates such wide fluctuations.

GeigerLog supports those devices. Read the chapter "SerialPulse Devices" in the GeigerLog manual on page 113ff.
https://sourceforge.net/projects/geigerlog/files/

Though using a tool-081 with a GMC counter does not really make sense, as it doe not give any benefit. It is easier and more elegant to use a regular USB connection. This tool makes sense for other pulse sources, including e.g. tachometers, or classic, historic Geiger counters, which give only audio output. However, there is still the requirement that the (audio-) pulse shape and amplitude are in the proper range!

Thanks for reply.

1. according to our design engineer, he said the clicks are tied to the reading. There should be clicks when the 081 tool is connected.

2. Yes you can charge it separately.
