Posted - 11/28/2022 : 02:56:18 I have a source of 0.8 uCi which comes from a smoke detector, I do not know its accuracy, but I only have this, how far can this source from the Geiger tube be placed to have a reliable measurement? I also have a piece of natural U238 and a radium source also from a smoke detector but I don't know its value. Thanks. |

Except: if these appear dusty, or pieces may come off, put them in a plastic bag. I would not want to have any alpha emiiter around me, which I could breath in!
With the GMC-500 you could not detect alpha anyway, and enough betas will pass. Gammas will almost not be weakened at all.
