Hello,

I've encountered a problem with the GQ_EMF_PRO software not reading data correctly from the EMF-390v2 Rev 3.01. I just downloaded the software today, so it's the current version. If you look at the following image, three things are wrong with it. The top part is the screen from the instrument; and the bottom part is the data downloaded from the instrument. They don't agree. a) The EMF on the instrument is reading .5 mG. The EMF on the download graph is reading 3.421 mG. They don't agree. b) The EF on the instrument is sitting at 579 V/m. The EF on the download graph is 832 - 1069 V/m. They don't agree. Also, the check boxes for x, y, and z are all turned on, but those all show 0. So, there's a definite problem with the way the software is reading data from the instrument.

Ron

Hi rfrazier, thank you for pointing it out. We still need to update the EMF_PRO software.

The folks at GQ sent me a link to v 3.00 of the software. I've tested it and it appears to be working correctly now. Thanks.

A suggestion. If possible, it would be helpful to increase the update / baud rate. Also, every so often, clicking the menu buttons on the software to remote control the device don't always activate the device. Also, the menu buttons on the software don't support the press and hold functions that the device buttons do.

Overall, nice software though.

Hi Ron, than you for confirming the 3.00 version of the EMF PRO is working. According to our engineer, the current hardware design limits our baudrate to 115200. We are planning on adding USB feature in the future instead of RS-232. Sometimes the button presses can miss because it hasnt responded from a previous request when another request has been sent or some other issues. We will try to improve this one. The hold button is actually the On/Off corresponds to holding the Power button on the device, and the Zoom-in/Zoom-out is actually a Hold S1/S2 command on the unit. We will rename them to Hold S1/S2 on the next firmware update instead of just Zoomin/out. And if you want to press and hold both button the same time for screen shot, you can use the 'Save Screen' feature on the menu under 'File'.

Thanks for that info. It's cool to be able to remote control the instrument. Just for fun, I started up 2 copies of the software and was able to switch back and forth from monitoring the instrument on one USB port then the other. So, assuming you had enough screen real estate, and you had several USB ports, it looks like you could monitor several instruments at one time.

Here are some minor suggestions:

a) It would be cool to try an active USB extender cable like this to see if it works so the PC could be some distance away from the instrument being monitored. Some instruments can be monitored by wifi or bluetooth, but if you're trying to measure and squash emf's, that might be a problem.

b) It would be cool to optionally feed the instrument's alarm light back to an indicator on the software screen and or the instrument's alarm tone back to the pc's speaker.

c) The remote screen display sometimes takes a while to update parts of the screen.

Overall, though, very impressive.
