I am trying to determine the right EMF meter for my home. I was going to purchase the Trifield TR2, but I decided to research the budget market to find the best meter. I was pleasantly surprised to discover the GQ EMF 380, but now I am trying to evaluate this meter's accuracy, so I was wondering how the Advanced EMF-380 compares to the TriField TR2? I found the following specifications for each meter, but I am having trouble trying to determine which meter is more accurate. The V/m resolution appears to be more granular for the EMF-380, but it is difficult to understand since the TriField manufacture doesn't specify accuracy using the same format. For example, Electric Field measurements of the EMF-380 specifies "10%+50dgt" but the TR2 reports "±5% @ 50/60 Hz". Is the TR2 meter generally more accurate?

What are your thoughts?

  • Maximum Range: 1000 V/m

Radio Frequency Radiation Mode

a 5% difference in accuracy is not that much because it's hard to measure the exact EMF value at a fixed position/place.
But the EMF 380 has a lot of functions that the TF2 doesn't have like The 2.4G WiFi Spectrum, 60second graph, etc.

Here I see the spec
EMF (Electromagnetic Field)
Triple axis (X, Y, Z) up to 300Mhz

But GQ EMF-360/ EMF-360+/EMF-380 EMF Multi-Field/Multi-Function Meter User Guide Revision 1.2 Jul-2018 says
EMF (Electromagnetic Field)
o Triple axis (X, Y, Z) up to 150KHZ

Please explain the drastic difference in frequency response.

That was a mistake, we tested it and can only confirm that the EMF can measure up to 400KHz.

We don't have it. The observed EMF becomes lower as the frequency goes up.

Thanks! Sometimes there are firmware updates to improve the device, you can contact customer support to ask
if there's available update for your version if you happen to get one.

I did get one but the RF noise is so great that I expect to return it, so have not made the measurement but it occurs to me that without some frequency selectivity, wide bandwidth is not useful because for most cases power line frequency will dominate. Adding spectrum analysis for the EF & MF (which you call EMF) functions would be very useful if the sensitivity is sufficient. Is there any chance of adding this capability?

What do you mean by RF noise? Are you referring to the RF spectrum?
Yes we can do EMF spectrum but it will cost more. This is for general purpose reference measurement. You can return it if it doesn't work for you. Thanks for your feedback.
